The 1998 Closure

Morrowline did not issue a single formal closure announcement. Instead, its November 1998 notices described an operational consolidation and the transfer of active client work.

October 1998

Department managers were asked to identify active contracts, leased equipment, stored client records, and employees required for project completion. New capital purchases and nonessential travel were suspended. A proposed sale of the software-support group did not close.

November 1998

  • 02–05 NOV Equipment and contract inventories completed.
  • 06 NOV Board approves consolidation plan.
  • 09–13 NOV Client notices and employee separation packets distributed.
  • 16–20 NOV Active files transferred; leased computers and vehicles returned.
  • 23–25 NOV Remaining accounting and benefits work moved to a temporary office.
  • 30 NOV Bellweather reception and main telephone service closed.

December 1998–June 1999

A five-person administrative team completed payroll adjustments, insurance notices, receivables, tax records, and contract closeout. Office furniture was sold in December. The Bellweather lease ended in January, the Huntsville sublease in February, and the North Annex sale closed in April.

Disposition summary

Forty-two desktop computers were sold to employees, sixty-eight were returned to lessors, and specialized laboratory equipment was purchased by clients or regional resellers. Company vehicles were sold at auction. Paper client records were returned, shredded under contract, or transferred with continuing work.

Morrowline wound down privately without a bankruptcy filing. Corporate registrations remained administratively active during final tax and property transactions and were allowed to lapse afterward.
